Just in time for Halloween!! Come join Carl Soto of Soto Designs to learn the fundamentals of special effects make-up. From Zombies to Monsters, scars to burns, blood and guts, Carl Soto uses a practical approach and artistic consideration when bringing his craft to life! Carl is not just a workshop instructor and teacher, but a working professional special effects make-up artist. He’s an artisan that’s been in the business for over 20 years. This workshop is for anyone interested in learning how use make-up techniques and artistry to capture the imagination of a growing audience looking for realism and craft on the screen. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to “get in the lab” with Carl Soto. This workshop promises to equip you with introductory skills and an industry insider perspective on special effects make-up. Workshop will provide an introduction to his business, an overview of the skills they will learn, any safety tips, and an intro on makeup effects for blood and skin application, burn creation, etc.

- 10-minutes of safety talk

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
More than three decades ago, Carl Soto began his Artisan career with drawing tools and created images of early classic monster movies. Carl's attention to detail and his eye for visual cause and effect showed that his perspective was always focused on more than just a pictures or colors. It was only a matter of time before he would move on to sculpture, airbrushing, mechanical design and eventually cinematography. With guidance from various mentors, Carl was able to perfect his craft, develop his skills, and develop new ways to express his art and ideas. The culmination of decades of creative growth led Carl to establish Soto Designs, of Camarillo, CA. Born and raised in Oxnard, Carl has made a name for himself as well as establishing his roots here in Ventura County, CA. His company Soto Designs, specializes in all forms of artwork as well as sculptures, props and set designs, special effects makeup, and graphic design. |

Whether it’s discussing the “dos and don’ts” of the film industry or learning how to maximize performance for the camera, Natasha Martin sheds light on what actors need to know to succeed. This workshop is for anyone that is interested in learning more about acting in the Film & TV business. Participants will look at practical and helpful techniques to develop their craft and strengthen their performance skills. In an audition scenario Natasha will take you through a real time audition experience and give helpful feedback to get Casting Director's attention and get that callback! Come and join us to learn some intro hands-on acting techniques to bring a character and the story to life. Dress comfortably for movement and energy exercises. - 15 min sensory recall exercises & techniques for emotional preparation.
- 15-minutes script analysis
- 45-55 -min performance (each student will come into the "casting room" learn how to find their mark, slate, and deliver copy) then receive feedback.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Natasha Lee Martin started working at a young age as a performer, then evolved into directing, writing and producing in television and film roles on networks such as FOX, TLC, DISNEY, NIPPON TV JAPAN and is co-owner of FRICTIONS.TV along with renowned directors Jean-Marc Demmer and Steven Petitteville, She has worked with world renowned directors such as M. Wakabayashi, Arthur Penn, Justin Lin and Spike Lee. Natasha holds an MFA in Acting Pedagogy and trained at the Actor's Studio Program in New York City extensively from world renowned director Arthur Penn (Bonnie and Clyde, The Miracle Worker) executive producer of Law and Order Estelle Parsons and Digby Wolfe, where she learned to take risk, excavate the stories of real characters and authenticate herself into the work. Natasha’s thrill for working under pressure, love for problem solving and talent for innovation within the strictest borders, define her work and she tries to bring levity, enthusiasm and groundedness to every collaboration. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Harold Lewis has been an Entertainment and Finance Executive for over 30 years. He is an Author, and Lecturer at UCLA where he teaches Film Finance and is the the Founder of the Reel Money Courses (RMC) education platform featuring the online course called: “The Program In Film Finance”. Prior to his teaching career, he served as the head of Entertainment Banking at Union Bank in Beverly Hills and previously was the CFO for Black Entertainment Television (BET) music division. And Previously he served as Senior Vice President and District Manager for what is now Wells Fargo Bank. Harold graduated from Oxnard Collage before attending UCLA where he earned a Bachelors degree in Communications. Harold is a native of Oxnard. |
